THE HAMPSTEAD SPRINGS STORY
Ross and Linda have lived and worked on Hampstead Springs for over 30 years and have a deep and abiding love for the country. The property was drawn in a land ballot in 1986 ……. And so the journey began! At the time, the property was a bare, undeveloped block and Ross and Linda and their 3 young daughters slept in a swag beside the creek while the first work was done. A baby son the following year completed the family and many years of hard (but enjoyable) work have brought the property to what it is today. The severe drought of the last few years was the catalyst for venturing into the tourism industry, along with a desire to share with others their love for the land and their way of life.
GEOLOGY OF HAMPSTEAD SPRINGS
The Gregory Range is a plateau running from the Kennedy Development Road, 160 kms north of Hughenden, to Croydon. It is characterised by rugged sandstone escarpments on the southern side, of which Hampstead Springs forms a part. Numerous fresh-water springs emerge from this plateau with one of the largest running through the property. Over the years, weathering of the escarpments has created stunning, and at times whimsical, formations.
THE PAPERBARK CHALLENGE
Here at Hampstead Springs we believe we have the largest Paperbark trees in the country - but we would love you to prove us wrong!
Bring along your photos or measurements of large trees that you may have come across in your travels and we will compare.
These wonderful trees are of ecological and spiritual significance and you can't help but be impressed with their magnificent presence.
We just got back from this wonderful tour, what a fabulous day. Ross & Linda are great hosts and the food was lovely. Couldn't recommend this tour highly enough if you are in Richmond. A true insight into family life in the outback & the difficulties that had to be overcome
Just went on this today with our two 7 year olds. We were a little sceptical as to whether the kids would enjoy it. We shouldn't have worried. We all had a fantastic time. It was so worth it. Thoroughly recommended.
We have just had the most amazing day travelling with Ross of Hampstead Tours to his cattle property 'Hampstead Springs' Thank you Ross and Linda for sharing your story, your tucker and your land with us. DO NOT MISS THIS ADVENTURE!! We loved it!!
